Prior to the Civil War, as many as 3,000 African Americans passed through or lived in ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï after escaping from slavery. The town was said to be second only to Canada as an asylum for freedom seekers. Guests on this history walk are guided by a docent from the ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Heritage Center who discusses the historic decisions that shaped ÍøÆسԹϒs growth as a station on the Underground Railroad and the individuals and events that marked ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï as one of the most active stations. Hear stories about ÍøÆسԹϒs most famous freedom seekers and people known to have helped them make their way to freedom on this 90-minute neighborhood walking tour. Meet on the front steps of First Chutch, corner of Main and Lorain Streets (Rt. 58 and Rt. 511).

Advance registration is required as space is limited. Call 440-774-1700, email tourinfo@oberlinheritage.org, or visit www.oberlinheritagecenter.org to register. In case of rain, the tour will be cancelled, and fees refunded.
