As the semester comes to a close and the sun finally comes out, the searches for new deans begin to heat up.

This past weekend provided stunning reminders of ÍøÆسԹÏ’s distinctive blending of top flight academic, artistic, and musical life.

What I find impressive is the breadth and depth of ÍøÆسԹÏ’s ongoing, everyday commitment to sustainability.

Our hearts go out to the families affected by the bombing at the Boston Marathon. The horror is amplified by the fact that ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï has so many ties to Boston.

Please know that wherever you go, the roads that brought you here in the first place can always bring you back. No matter how many miles your journey takes, this community will still embrace you.

ÍøÆسԹÏians often commit acts of kindness and altruism that go unnoticed.

Congratulations to David Stull and Sean Decatur; I know they will be outstanding presidents. And thanks to the students who devoted time, energy, and thought to building on our shared commitment to diversity and inclusion at ÍøÆسԹÏ.

This is how ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï faces challenging times. We reaffirm our belief in ÍøÆسԹÏ’s mission and values by gathering to listen, to discuss, and to work towards solutions.

There is still much work to be done. But Monday’s events organized by our students, faculty, and staff were a great beginning. We will continue the teaching, learning, and working to build an even better ÍøÆسԹÏ.

The humanities help us tell our stories, interpret those of others, and allow us to communicate more effectively. This capacity lies at the heart of a liberal arts education.
