Mikaela de Lemos wants to give back to the community that welcomed her when she studied abroad in 2020, even though the semester was cut short due to the pandemic. 

A double major in Hispanic studies and Latin American studies, Davis has demonstrated a passion for language and language-learning. 

A published manuscript coauthored by Ella Halbert ’23 offers software tools that pathologists could use to assist with a tedious, yet necessary process in the study of disease.

Hispanic studies and politics major Leila Miller ’16 recently transitioned from criminal justice reporter to foreign correspondent at the Los Angeles Times. She recently moved to Mexico City to begin her new position covering the news in Mexico and Latin America.

Zoe Guiney, a Hispanic studies and cinema studies major, graduated from ���سԹ� College with high honors in May. Her educational journey will continue in Mexico as a Fulbright recipient.

While serving as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Mexico this fall, Johan Cavert ’20 also plans to provide support to asylum seekers and refugees.

“In learning a language, you open your eyes and mind to a whole new world of opportunities and people,” says Henry O’Connor ’24. As a Critical Language Scholarship recipient, he will spend the summer immersed in Mandarin.

The Hispanic studies and history double major will use the opportunity to continue  developing her abilities as an English teacher and Spanish language learner.

The Hispanic studies major will teach English and work in community education.

What began as a few ���سԹ� students tutoring in Lorain once a week has expanded into a team of more than 30 volunteers and three working groups who teach classes at El Centro every Saturday morning.
