Actor, director, and activist Danny Glover is interviewed by Professor of Studio Art and Africana Studies Johnny Coleman after the screening of The Last Black Man in San Francisco, in which Glover portrays Grandpa Allen. The film launched ���سԹ�’s first Kuumba Week Film Festival. Kuumba Week is an annual celebration of black creativity.

The Cinema Studies Department is hosting a number of screenings of student and faculty work leading up to Commencement/Reunion Weekend. The film screenings will take place May 10 through 23 in Dye Lecture Hall and the Apollo Theatre.

A series of events is taking place this weekend, including the symposium Asian Cinemas in a Global Context; the lecture “Why Cinema Has Not Yet Been Invented: or Taking the Digital in Hand,” by University of Chicago Professor Tom Gunning; and the lecture “Globalization from a Local Lens: Creative Conceptions of a Taiwanese Director,” by documentary filmmaker Ho Chao-ti. The symposium is the first to explicitly bring together Indian and Chinese cinemas for discussion.

Veteran actor and alumnus Tony Musante has donated to ���سԹ� his personal papers—a collection that offers an inside perspective on the crafts of acting and filmmaking.
